Gossage Migrates North to Ontario Courses
After his time playing in the PDGA World Championships in Lynchburg, Virginia, Aaron Gossage had some time to burn before he headed to Michigan for the Great Lakes Open. Lucky enough for a bunch of Ontario disc golfers, he came north of the border to check out our disc golf courses and some of our biking trails.
On Instagram it was revealed that the top 20 ranked disc golfer was in Guelph looking for suggestions for courses and trails and it was only be assumed that the course recommendations came flooding in.
After Guelph, on Thursday, he made it out to White Spruce in Brampton and played club night. Based on the photos found on the Disc Golf Ontario Facebook group, he had a huge group of fans. When asked about the bustling club at White Spruce, he agreed that it was a great community, with a big smile on his face. He isn’t wrong about that- every single week, the Brampton course is packed to the brim with players- and even better, many of them stick around afterwards to keep the good times rolling! White Spruce’s excellent community was a great place to demonstrate to Gossage what Ontario disc golf can be.
He was then contacted by WolfKat Discs, who let him know about the great course at Trail Hub, along with the 240 km of trails connected to the property. It was a perfect fit for the traveling pro with discs in the trunk and a bike on the back.
On Friday evening, he joined us for club at Trail Hub. Although the round was finished in the dark due to the shortened sun season, all involved had a really great time. Aaron and his very lucky random doubles partner, Neelesh Kaul, won the week and came in first. Aaron also won two out of three of the CTP prizes- but he donated it all back to the club- both his first place money as well as the two discs. Sure, the guy probably has more frisbees than there are words in the dictionary, but the fact that he was willing to join in on multiple club games in a province nowhere near home and then give it all back? Let’s just say that he has endeared himself to our Ontario disc golf community.
After the round, when he was asked about what he thought of Trail Hub, he gave it its flowers and told us that it was similar to courses that he would play back home in Colorado on other high elevation, converted ski hill courses.
It was nice to hear that Trail Hub was both seen in a positive light by the pro and that it was also comparable to long established American courses. The Trail Hub track seems to be well on its way to one of the premier courses in the province- especially with the new adjustments to a number of holes that are sure to impress more than just Aaron.
After he signed as many autographs as the people wanted, as well as sticking around to talk with anyone with anything to say, the new fan favourite took his wheels and discs, and soon began the trip back south DGLO in Michigan- leaving behind a ton of new fans rooting for him to be on lead card.
Aaron, anytime you are back in the North, Ontarians will welcome you back with open arms!
